This week is National Volunteers’ Week, a time to recognise, celebrate and thank our wonderful volunteers for all their hard work.
Meet Michael!
Michael began his volunteering journey with the Community around 20 years ago, and can often be found mowing and tending to the lawns and gardens. Michael is a valued member of the grounds team, he has enjoyed volunteering at CR and feels the experience has helped him immensely.
Hi I’m Jan, and I have been a volunteer in the CR Bookshop for around 10 years. I assisted Fr Antony at first, but now work with Brother Patrick who is the current bookshop manager. My role is to support him by ordering books and other items to make sure we keep things up to date. We try to stock something for everyone, and often get recommendations from the Brethren and our customers. One of my favourite things about the job is talking to our visitors, getting to know them, and finding out what they like to read. The last 10 years in the Bookshop have brought me great joy, and I hope to continue for as long as I can.
I am Bruce and I work with Mirfield Publications. I edit and design the books and CDs that we produce and see them through to publication. I have learned a whole new set of skills since doing this work for CR. For the last 18 months I have also acted as Honorary Chaplain to the College of the resurrection, hopefully being someone a bit independent that students and staff can talk to.
We have 15 library volunteers…..here are a few of them!
Meet Rosemary, Jackie & David, who are helping to audit catalogue records and barcode the books in order to aid computerised circulation.
Jackie – ‘I always enjoyed the Quarry Theatre plays at Commemoration Day when I was a child, so it was lovely ‘happenstance’ when I reconnected with the Community through volunteering’.
Rosemary – ‘Working with the books here opens up new worlds outside my everyday experience’.
Pam is helping with shelving books using conservation standards. And continues to help us by working through donations. #VolunteersWeek
Pam – ’it is a pleasure to help maintain the library in such a beautiful environment’.
Jackie & Charles are helping to catalogue parts of the collection.
Jackie – ‘this was just meant for me, to be surrounded by books!’
Charles – ‘working in the Community Library is fascinating – such a wealth of learning, culture and experience. Very rewarding to feel that one is helping to maintain this marvellous resource for the future’.
Janet is cataloguing pamphlets – we have 12,000 of them!
Janet – ‘I like volunteering because I like a challenge. Also having received so much from educational opportunities provided here, I welcome the chance to give something back’.
We hope you have enjoyed meeting some of our volunteers.
Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers, the Community is grateful for the amazing work you do!
