Have you been making the most of the unusually long heat wave?
The brothers CR have had a whole week of retreat punctuating our Chapter meetings, in which to enjoy the sunshine and get outdoors. This has been really welcome after a week of meetings and being inside. Our retreat this year is being conducted by the Rt. Revd. Bill Godfrey, parish priest of Lastingham, N. Yorks. He was a bishop in Peru, and had experience of teaching in a seminary there. He has spoken movingly of the person of God the Holy Spirit during the week, and related some of his interesting experiences whilst in South America.
Next week, we are back in General Chapter, but not before a day out together on Monday 23rd, visiting in South Yorkshire, where the 14th century mystic and writer Richard Rolle lived. There was a Cistercian monastery there. We’re hoping to have a talk on him by the parish priest. Let’s hope the fine whether continues, and the much-needed rain doesn’t come on our excursions.
Whatever your own plans, have a good summer.
God be with you,
Marc CR
