It’s a great privilege to have been chosen by Fr Oswin and the Community to come to work at Mirfield. It’s a kind of homecoming for me because, although I have lived in North Yorkshire for most of my life, I was born in Dewsbury, and I went to school in Wakefield until I was 16.
In Chapter 53 of the Rule of St Benedict, entitled The Reception of Guests, Benedict wrote:
All guests who arrive should be received as if they were Christ, for he will say, ‘I was a stranger and you took me in’ (Matthew 25:35). I’d like this to remain the heart of all the work we do together here.
I look forward to working with everyone to develop the Ministry of Hospitality for our guests, welcoming them all with really caring and attentive service, ensuring that they can participate in the prayer life of the House for their own spiritual profit.
I’ve already been made to feel very welcome, and I’m looking forward to meeting as many people as possible as the weeks unfold. Please do drop in if you are passing; my office is just next to reception in the Retreat House.
With prayers and best wishes,
Adele
